1. Mindless scrolling
Do believe it’s an apt description for the changes that come over us when we scroll on our phones mindlessly. We do it out of habit, with no real destination or benefit. And in the process, a lot of things happen
Our attention spans get shorter
We lose track of time
Our mood often drops
Productivity suffers
Sleep quality declines
And the most important of all we miss out on the richness of real-world interactions
You don’t have to quit social media entirely though. Just be more mindful and lay down some ground rules for yourself so you can limit it
2. Comparing yourself to others
It’s quite natural to compare ourselves with others; this has always gone on since the dawn of time
However, with the advent of social media, this habit has escalated to new heights. We are bombarded with curated snapshots of other people’s lives, and we completely buy into it
We let it mess with our heads and make our own lives look tiny in comparison. Instead of seeing how good we actually already have it, instead of focusing on what actually makes us happy. we convince ourselves that we’ve got to keep up
3. Procrastination
Do you think that if you push back that unpleasant task a few more hours, you’ll feel better
Think about it: even if you’re “playing hooky”, the knowledge that you have something left to do is still humming around in the back of your head and
In contrast, when you get it done right away and check it off your list, there’s so much satisfaction, isn’t it? It’s so fulfilling to know that you’ve done the responsible thing, even if you hated it
4. Overcommitting
If you have a tendency to overcommit, chances are, you’re spending your days catering to others and not enough to yourself
Of course, it’s great to help out and connect with others. But if you’re always saying yes because you feel like you have to, then it’s draining you instead of making your life richer
It’s all about finding a balance. Your time and energy are limited, so being more picky about where you spend them is essential to feeling fulfilled
5. Complaining
Complaining can feel cathartic at the moment, but beyond that, it leaves us with a sullen mood that drags everyone around us down. And the more we complain, the more we focus on what’s wrong
Do enough of that day in and day out, and it can spiral into a more pessimistic view of life
complaining makes our hippocampus smaller. That’s the part of the brain responsible or memory and problem solving
Be now and Be here
Be yourself and Be happiness
